Chairlift – “Amanaemonesia”
The duo of Caroline Polachek and Patrick Wimberly has achieved a decent fanbase on the back of their eclectic and dark pop explorations. An electronic pop vibe is the baseline, but Chairlift add a flair of rock dynamics to their sound, from booming percussion to expressive guitar lines. Moody yet inventive, Chairlift lulls the listener in dreamily while still remaining intricate enough to bear repeated listeners. Their latest record, Something, continues this trend handily and even shows a nice sense of maturation from their earlier efforts. It seems Chairlift is playing just about everywhere this year at SXSW, so be sure to stick around for a set if you need an injection of darkness in your day.
